The Topic Owner Dashboard gives Subject Matter Experts direct visibility of their topic performance, learner feedback, and question health, without needing Admin access to the full platform. This article explains how to navigate the dashboard and use its key features.
Accessing the Dashboard
The dashboard is available to users assigned the Topic Owner role. If you don't see the dashboard or are missing sections after logging in, contact your Cognexo Admin or raise a support ticket.
Reading the Dashboard
Topics are displayed as tiles, grouped by category. Each tile shows:
- Active and suspended question counts
- Positive and negative feedback counts
- Overall accuracy rate and monthly trend
- RAG status (Red / Amber / Green) for topic health at a glance
Questions for Review
The Questions for Review section automatically flags questions that may need attention. A question is flagged when any of the following thresholds are met:
Trigger | Threshold |
| Negative feedback | 3 or more items within 30 day |
| Too Easy | 95%+ correct answer rate (min. 10 attempts in 30 days) |
| Too Difficult | Under 10% correct answer rate (min. 10 attempts in 30 days) |
When you're ready to investigate a flagged question, click Acknowledge to hide the flag for 30 days. If the same trigger is hit again within that window, the flag will reappear.
Drafting and Editing Questions
All new and edited questions default to Draft status. A designated Admin must approve the content before it goes live.
When a question is submitted for review, Admins can use the Comparison view to see a side-by-side before/after of the text, answer options, explanations, and images.
Pre-Learning
Pre-learning content can be attached to any question and appears to the learner before they answer. Learners can refer back to it during the question using the open-book icon. Pre-learning supports:
- Plain text and Markdown formatting (bold, italics, lists)
- YouTube and Vimeo video embeds
- Hyperlinks
- Tables
Guidance: Pre-learning works best for refreshing existing knowledge or reinforcing policy. Avoid using it to introduce brand-new content that learners haven't encountered elsewhere.
Question Types
In addition to True/False, Yes/No, Multiple Choice, and All Which Apply, the following question types are available:
Ordered Answer — Learners drag items into the correct sequence. Useful for process steps or ranked decisions.
Matching Pairs — Learners connect items from two columns, for example terms to definitions or images to names.
Image Map — Learners click a specific location on an uploaded image. Useful for identifying hazards, labelling diagrams, or navigating system screenshots. All question types support image-based answer options, and all uploaded images require alt-text for accessibility.
Question Timers
An optional timer can be added to any question (off by default). This increases difficulty and is most useful for topics that are consistently scoring above the Too Easy threshold.
Getting Help
If you have a question or encounter an issue with your dashboard, raise a ticket via the Support portal or post in the community and someone from the Cognexo team will follow up.
