Knowledge Rank measures employees’ understanding of each topic over time, from Learner 1 to Master 10. It considers question difficulty and overall answer patterns, so one mistake won’t necessarily reduce rank. Repeated questions reinforce learning and distinguish guesses from understanding. Managers can track ranks across individuals, teams and the organisation, set minimums, and target support.
Every employee gets a Knowledge Rank for each topic they're learning. It shows how well they know that topic, based on how they answer questions over time rather than on any single answer.
There are four tiers, each with 10 levels, so people move from Learner 1 up to Master 10:
| Tier | What it means |
|---|---|
| Learner | Just getting started and building familiarity |
| Improver | Making progress, with some gaps still to close |
| Expert | Strong, consistent knowledge |
| Master | Excellent knowledge, sustained over time |
Rank is tracked separately for each topic. Someone might be an Expert in one area and a Learner in another, which is exactly the kind of insight the rank is designed to give you.
Getting a question wrong won't necessarily lower your rank
Questions are matched to each person's current level of knowledge. The platform takes into account how difficult a question is, so if you get a hard question wrong, you won't be penalised for it. Getting a harder question right counts for more, and missing an easier one counts for more too. Your rank reflects your overall pattern of answers, so it's fair to people who are stretching themselves.
Why questions come back
Employees will sometimes see the same question more than once. That's deliberate. Questions they get wrong come back more often, which helps close that gap. Questions they get right also come back occasionally, because on a four-option question there's a 1 in 4 chance of guessing correctly. Repetition lets the platform tell a lucky guess from genuine understanding. This spaced, repeated practice is also what makes learning stick.
What you can do with it
You can see rank for individuals, teams and the whole organisation, so you can track capability improving over time. You can also set a minimum rank for a topic and flag anyone below it for extra support, or target campaigns at people who are still at Learner or Improver level.
