Each topic has its own leaderboard. A user only appears on a topic’s leaderboard once they have answered at least five questions on that topic.
The ‘Out of’ number on a leaderboard tile (see image below) shows how many people are currently ranked on that topic. It is not your organisation’s total headcount, so a user can be ranked on one topic but not yet on another.
What affects how quickly a user is ranked
How long it takes a user to reach five answers on a topic depends on:
- How long the topic has been active
- How many other topics are active at the same time
- How many questions are delivered per day
- Whether the user works full time or part time
- How engaged the user is
- How many days per week the topic is scheduled
- Whether the topic is delivered as Mandatory or Additional rather than Core (see Question Types – Cognexo)
Because of this, two topics launched on the same day to an identical audience can still show different Company and Department ‘Out of’ totals while users catch up.
Example
The GDPR and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) topics above were activated on the same day and are sent at random to the same active users: 13 in the Company, 4 of whom are in this Department.
- GDPR shows 13 Company and 4 Department users, so everyone is ranked.
- AML shows 12 Company and 3 Department users, so one user is not ranked yet.
The missing user is active. Their questions have simply come round in a different order, so they have answered at least five GDPR questions but fewer than five AML questions so far. Once they answer their fifth AML question, they will join the AML leaderboard and both topics will show the same totals.
In short: different ‘Out of’ totals are expected and do not mean anyone is missing from the topic. They show who has answered enough questions to be ranked so far.
