How to create content in Cognexo

Admins can add questions to existing Cognexo topics by navigating to Topics & Questions and selecting the ‘New Questions’ tab. Users choose a question type and create questions with optional images. Full-permission users can activate questions, while others submit drafts for approval. Alternatively, questions can be imported via a downloadable template, allowing bulk uploads. The template requires matching topic names and correct formatting, with upload status indicated by green ticks or red Xs.

Creating questions for existing topics

As the topic already exists in Cognexo, an admin user can open the topic and manually add additional questions. To do this, navigate to Topics & Questions, locate the relevant topic, and click on the ‘New Questions’ tab at the top of the page.

You will then be prompted to select the type of question you would like to create.

Once the question type has been selected, you will be directed to the question builder. From here, you can create and add the specific questions you would like included in the topic. You also have the option to add images if required.

Users with full dashboard permissions can activate questions themselves. If a line manager only has permission to submit drafts, they should follow the same process to create a question, but select “Submit for Approval” rather than “Activate Questions", as this option wouldn't be available.

Importing Questions & Question templates

You can also use the question template in Cognexo to import questions. This allows you to upload multiple topics and questions in one go, helping to save time when adding a large number of questions.

Navigate to Topics & Questions and click 'Upload questions'. Once in here click 'Download a clean template file'

A clean template will then be downloaded for you to complete with multiple questions before uploading them to the system. Using this template ensures the data is formatted correctly, as the system requires questions to be uploaded in a specific structure.

Possible issues when uploading questions via CSV file

Topic Name:Make sure the topic name in the CSV file is identical to the corresponding topic name in Cognexo, with no trailing space after the name. Any mismatch including an extra space - will prevent the system from correctly identifying the topic during upload
Question Types:Make sure the question type in the CSV file exactly matches one of the accepted formats below (case-sensitive)
singleAnswer
multipleAnswer
allWhichApply
Answer Options:Make sure answer options 1 and 2 both contain text — neither box can be left blank. If either is left empty, the upload will fail. This rule applies to all question types
Correct Answer Options:When entering the correct answer for question types multipleAnswer or allWhichApply, separate each correct option number with an ampersand — for example: 1&2 or 3&4
Explanation:This box can be left blank. Text isn't required here for the CSV file to upload successfully

Before uploading, make sure the file is saved and check for any formatting issues that may have occurred. Questions that are correctly formatted and are ok to upload will have a green tick next to each one. However, if there are any questions that haven't been correctly uploaded, a red 'X' will appear next to the questions, along with an explanation of the problem.
