Understanding Engagement in Cognexo

What is Engagement?

Engagement measures the average number of days it takes a user to answer a question. An engagement score of 1 is perfect, meaning all questions are answered within one business day. Unanswered questions continue to add to the engagement score until they are answered.

How is Engagement Calculated?

To calculate your engagement score, we look at the time taken to answer each question. Here's how it's done:

  1. Identify Questions: Include any question asked this month and any unanswered questions from previous months.
  2. Calculate Time to Answer: Count the number of working days between the date the question was asked and the date it was answered, or today if still unanswered.

Engagement Reset

To prevent one bad period of engagement from affecting a learner's score permanently, we partially reset the engagement score at the start of each month. However, if there are unanswered questions carried over from the previous month, they will still impact the current month’s score. This ensures that unresolved engagement issues are still reflected.

Partial Reset Explained

Engagement is calculated monthly to provide a fair chance for improvement. For example, if you start the month with an engagement score of 1, miss a few days, and end the month with an engagement score of 1.5, the score is partially reset at the start of the new month.

This partial reset helps maintain accuracy and fairness:

  • Current Month Calculation: Engagement is calculated based on questions answered this month.
  • Carried Over Questions: Unanswered questions from the previous month are included in the current month’s score until resolved.

Special Considerations

  • Weekends and Bank Holidays: These do not impact your engagement score.
  • Maintaining Accuracy: If engagement was averaged over all questions ever answered, long-term accuracy would diminish. Therefore, monthly partial resets ensure that scores remain fair and reflective of current performance.

By managing engagement in this way, Cognexo ensures that learners have a clear and fair measure of their participation and responsiveness, while also allowing room for improvement and recovery from past lapses.
